Harmful Chemicals To Avoid: Silicone Derived Emollients

Rolande Sumner Harmful Chemicals

Cyclomethicone, dimethicone, and dimethicone copolyol other known as silicone derived emollients, are additives used to create a smooth, slick feel to your everyday moisturizers. It makes your hair and skin appear more supple and lush. It is one of the miracles found in miracle creams on the market.

However, is this miracle really a curse?  Maybe a cause of tumors in the liver and lymph nodes. Silicone derived emollients are classified as an occlusive agent. Occlusive agents are used as a barrier to prevent water loss in the skin. However, harmful occlusive agents prevent toxin from leaving the body.

The largest organ of our body is the epidermis or skin. Skin allows oxygen and nutrients to enter as well as toxins to be released. When wearing a harmful occlusive, such as silicone derived emollients, your skin isn’t allowed to remove the toxins.  As you can imagine, retaining poison in your body, may make you feel tired and even ill.

Still not convinced? A very similar substance can be found in your bathroom. O-rings around your toilet, various tubing in your automobile, and caulk used to seal small openings in the seams in your walls. Yep, the silicone derived emollient used in your skin care are also close relatives to the same silicone used in your day life. Didn’t know you were smearing caulk on your face did you?
